ABOUT MACKENZIE

Mama. Writer. Wife. Greek. Daughter. Sister. World Traveler. MPH.

Mackenzie Porter has been writing since she was a little girl. The published author part was an unconventional twist of fate that came much later.

Reading bedtime stories together was always such a special time for Mackenzie and her daughter, starting when her daughter was a baby. When Mackenzie returned to work outside of the home after becoming a mom, she went looking for a children’s book that showed her family, one with a working mama. She couldn’t find it because in all of the hundreds (if not thousands) of books…there wasn’t one. S0, she did what any other mom would do, and she wrote it herself.

And that’s how Mackenzie’s first book, In My Heart - and entire career as a published author - was born. She continues to write stories from her heart, inspired by her family, motherhood, and life’s journey. And, to this day, she believes in always taking that shot because you never know what the universe has in store.

Professionally, Mackenzie started out as a first grade teacher before transitioning to work in early childhood education and maternal and child health. She thought it was a great idea to start graduate school while working and mothering full-time during a pandemic, and somehow survived, receiving her Master of Public Health degree in 2023. She continues to advocate for families, mothers, and children to receive the support they deserve.

Personally, Mackenzie is a mama. Her daughter is the air she breathes and gives her heart stories to tell. She considers it the greatest honor and privilege to be her mother. Motherhood is also the hardest thing she’s ever done. Mackenzie is a wife, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, and niece in a big family she adores. Family is everything to her. She’s a middle child who shies away from attention (it took her 5 years to even agree to a website). She loves to travel and is always – always – planning a trip. She is half-blooded Greek but everything about Greece feels like home. She hopes to live there someday.

She’s eternally grateful her books have connected with people around the world and hopes to continue to put into words the stories and feelings of so many who share the same experiences. She believes that at the end of the day, we’re all in this together.
